Knowing which path to choose can be trying. Indecision leads to panic and a really foggy perspective.
alternative pop rock singer songwriter acoustic piano funk folk blues vocal bethany gillan
Artist picture
Bethany Gillan, an acoustic rock female singer/songwriter with a funk style and rock groove. Solo and with Stories for Gillan!
Bethany Gillan possesses a young yet accomplished voice that's every bit as expressive as her harmonies. This thinking person's poet writes metaphorical melodies that suggest a composer twice her age, and her soft, elegant tone rises to the challenge. Having cut her teeth on everything from Classical to Pop-Rock, Bethany's rich musical history is reflected in her ambitious songwriting--try to imagine Joss Stone and Sarah McLachlan joining Fleetwood Mac for a sun-soaked jam session.

Story behind the song
Falling Down is about some kind of struggle and having the will to push through it. There is an unusual but cool chord progression on the chorus. It is somewhat of a ballad and I notated it in 6/8 because it made it easier to transcribe the vocal melody. What motivated me? Well there's always a new challenge around the bend. In this case, I started writing because I couldn't sleep. I was tossing over a lot of huge life decisions.
Lyrics
Falling stars, shooting arrows of thought to the core of my heart Aching feet, treading wearily on the abandoned street. Which way to go? Weathered paths, but no shoes to comfort my soul. Exhausted eyes, long for rest in the comfort of dreams in the night. And it cuts like a knife, how the heart can't decide When to run, where to turn, How to open my eyes And I see how it slips, runs away before I come to terms with the truth and what's haunting my mind Oh Falling down Oh Falling down Fairly reserved, gathering my breath to avoid any hurt. Wavering heart, pulls like tides of the moon as it tears me apart. And it cuts like a knife, how the heart can't decide When to run, where to turn, How to open my eyes And I see how it slips, runs away before I come to terms with the truth and what's haunting my mind Oh Falling down Oh Falling down So I lift my voice to God. Ask for help to carry on. Though I know I'll be okay, I need help to fight this day. And it cuts like a knife, how the heart can't decide When to run, where to turn, How to open my eyes And I see how it slips, runs away before I come to terms with the truth and what's haunting my mind Oh Falling down Oh Falling down
