Story behind the song
For those of you that don’t live in Nevada, California, or Arizona… In-N-Out Burger is a fast food restaurant started in 1948 in Southern California. The really interesting thing about this business: they resist the politically correct world and place Bible scriptures on their products. Just the scripture reference, not the whole scripture. It’s up to you to go find a Bible and see what it says.
Lyrics
[VERSE 1]
Drivin’ cross country with a friend of mine
In a beat up blue Chevy, or it might have been rust
Not sure where we’re goin’ or where we’ve been
Got a hand-painted sign, said, “Anywhere else or bust”
[VERSE 2]
Saw a big yellow arrow in the rear view mirror
Had to slow down turn around and head the other way
My friend woke up and took a look outside
Asked why? But somehow I knew this was the day
[LIFT]
In-n-Out Burger really saved my soul
Got a hamburger, fries, and a diet Coke
And for four ninety-five I got my stomach full
I turned the cup over and the Holy Spirit spoke (yeah)
[CHORUS]
It said “John three sixteen”
The full expression of God’s holy love
It said “John three sixteen”
I found salvation on the bottom of a(n In-n-Out) cup
[VERSE 3]
First chance I got I read a Gideon’s Bible
But I felt like a dirty pig checking out at a pearl
It said God sent His Son to save my life
It said God loves me and God loves the whole wide world
[VERSE 4]
Ain’t exactly headin’ down the highway to hell
But it’s hard to find the right road drivin’ down the wrong
If I found salvation at a fast food store
Then maybe there’s hope for singers of a silly little song
