Story behind the song
This is one of the few songs that sort of came to me. I basically wrote it in a few hours. The whole time I was thinking: this music is exactly how I’m feeling about Michelle today. I’ve definitely had my struggles in life, however, in the marriage department, I’ve been blessed beyond belief. The song is a wedding vow renewal put to music and dedicated to Michelle. Many thanks to my favorite song writer and good friend Peter Breinholt for putting a general idea of mine into a lyric draft with his trademark subtle brilliance. It was easy for my friend David Hardy and I to fill in the gaps.
Lyrics
Last night, in the quiet, when our day was through, I listened to you sleeping and stayed awake by you. And softly, through the evening, there I spoke your name And told you all the feelings I’ve had. I sometimes see you sitting by the window in the hall. Or laughing with the children at the little things you saw. And lately I’ve been wondering if it’s all I can do To hold you and to show you I do. My promise is forever with you My promise is forever. “I do.”
