I try to write music that strikes a balance between emotion and intellect. My work comes out of the 1,000 years of classical music tradition, even though I write in a wide variety of styles, ranging from highly abstract, dissonant works to folk or pop derived pieces. I try hard to allow each piece to be itself, to develop in whatever ways the musical ideas seem to want to go. My goal is musical expression most appropriate to the work at hand and its purpose. I am always seeking commissions and performances, and I am able to accomodate odd or unusual ensembles.
