Story behind the song
I always wanted to write a Christmas song and after thinking about it extensively and consulting with my kids and all my friends for quite awhile this is what evolved. What would it be like if Christmas never was?

When Christmas Never Was when christmas never ever really was there were no phony beards on santa claus there was no rock and roll we didn’t know mary or joe when christmas never ever really was there were no phony beards on santa claus there was no mistletoe nor rudolf’s red nosed glow but you could build a snowman with a child’s smile of love and say a prayer or two for the ones you love yea you could build a snowman… when christmas never was and wish for the stars of peace to shine above us when christmas never ever really was there were no phony beards on santa claus there were no stockings to fill no lighted candles on the window sill but you could build a snowman… when christmas never was and wish for the stars of peace to shine above us there were no presents to wrap… no silly dilly thing like that no fiberglass christmas trees… crazy shopping on christmas eve no greeting cards that say… merry christmas happy holidays no rummy tum tums… no rooty toot toots… no belly full of jelly or santa claus suits there were no carols to sing… hey we didn’t know a guy named bing no better not pout… no gifts to choose… no return lines… no credit card blues no commercialized christmas sleaze… blinking lights on an evergreen tree no dasher, dancer, prancer, vixen,comet cupid, donner, blitzen when christmas never ever really was… no one knew what an elf really does and three wise men from afar… never followed any heavenly star no jolly saint nick… no reindeer sleigh… no toys to deliver on christmas day ……and there was no baby jesus nor the gift of love that he gave us!
