Lyrics
The wind blows a kiss of salt and mist As the fisherman heads for the shore From the first break of dawn 'till sun set its rays he's pulled lines, now he's shaking and sore The sea has been home for 70 years, and he loves it no less than the first The love in his gaze as the hull skims the waves Tells a story no man could ever write And his broken voice stirs the evening air as the seagulls beckon for more "Bury me then, when I've drawn my last breath By my true love, on the shore" The cliffs tower above as they plunge into the deep and the fishermen heads for his home The wind has brought its fury, like an unforgiving jury The cold rains bite deep into the flesh But he laughs and he sings, as if borne upon the wings, of a seabird flying overhead "if they offered me the sun and beaches of sand, not even then would I forsake Newfoundland" He returns to his home where's tired and alone throws firewood into the stove He looks at a picture of Mary, his love, and the lifetime of tales they wove But he hears not her voice, no he hears not her voice in the dawn anymore it's been twenty years since they buried her on the shore
