Story behind the song
The main riff was inspired by St. John on the Aerosmith Parmanent Vacation album. The lyrics are a mataphor for my leaving my ex-wife and likening it to the rise of a phoenix.
Lyrics
First came the trouble with your vice Then came the mother with her advice You keep your trouble to remove my spine In the eye of the storm, you seem so divine I've been trying so damn hard Now my soul is torn and scarred You look at me with your pleading eyes Ain't no use, so say your goodbyes I walk a path, you start a fire With each escape, the stakes get higher I walk away and you set a trap Place your foot and I'll make it snap I've been trying so damn hard Now my soul is torn and scarred You look at me with your pleading eyes Ain't no use, so say your goodbyes With the fires that burn so high Your lies, they float up to the sky I see my way to a brand new life From the ashes I build my paradise First came the trouble with your vice Then came the mother with her advice You keep your trouble to remove my spine In the eye of the storm, you seem so divine I've been trying so damn hard Now my soul is torn and scarred You look at me with your pleading eyes Ain't no use, so say your goodbyes With the fires that burn so high Your lies, they float up to the sky I see my way to a brand new life From the ashes I build my paradise
