Story behind the song
I wrote this song for my brother Carl, in an effort to share the Gospel with him. At the time, he had a dim view of christians because of some bad experiences he'd had in parochial school, and with over-zealous family members. He needed to hear, in a non-judgmental way, that he mattered to God. I played this song for him, and his response was very favorable. He winked at me and said, "I'll be there." Sadly, he died of a heart attack at age 50, about 2 years after this song was written, and just a few months before Debi Kiontke released her own recording of this song on her first CD, "There Is Life". I'm not sure if my brother ever asked Jesus into his heart, but it is comforting to know that he heard a clear gospel message presented in this song...it gives me the hope of some day seeing him in Heaven.
