Story behind the song

I've got a friend who has had the hardest year that anyone could imagine, this guy deserves a medal for his courage and commitment to his family through each event that has unfolded this year. It's a cliche but it really is true that you have nothing if you dont have your health.

I could never even contemplate being able to put across his story, so I decided to write a song about a guy going through a hard time on a different level to that of my buddie. All the while I tried to keep the title that I had in mind for this song "Long Road" as it was one of the few times I have written a song from the title rather than write a song and then name it.

It's not a song about my buddie per se, but it was definitely the influence in writing the lyrics - the long hard road that lies for him and his wife in getting back to full fitness.

We were laying down the final vocals for 'All About Me' when Jim say's 'I have an idea for a song'.  He sang it and I jumped (about 6 feet in fact!!) for my guitar.  There and then we wrote, arranged and recorded the song in about an hour.  People always say 'Strike when the iron is hot'.  We did!

I echo Jim's sentiments on the song for our mutual friend.  If we told you his (& his wife's) story of the year 2004, you would have a hard time believing it.  Here's hoping that their troubles are now behind them.  Ken.
