Story behind the song
For all those wives and girlfriends who are left behind during times of war...
Lyrics
Across The Miles ©2003 Ian rushton Verse 1 Hello dear It's great to see you finally I'll take your coat dear Glad you're home And did you have a pleasant flight my dear? Welcome home Verse 2 It hardly seems fair When you left me standing here I never wanted to be alone And all the months you spent away from me And all the nights I slept alone But now you're home Chorus I watched you go off to fight some war I watched you go off afraid I watched you go off to some distant land And I don't even know if you'll come home I prayed for you, far across the miles Hoping that you're still alive Verse 3 I wondered when you're gone How you might be getting on I wondered if you'd be OK? All those nights I sat and wondered why And all those days seemed long Glad you're home Chorus 2 I watched you go off to fight some war I watched you go off afraid I watched you go off to some distant land And I might not see you again I prayed for you Far across the miles Wondering if you're still alive
