Acoustic Blues Blues Acoustique
To start with the music I play generally comes from the southern states of America except for some self penned stuff and a few traditional British numbers but even these I have re-arranged to suit my style of playing. So the basic feeling of the music stretches from the Mississippi to the Appalachian Mountains, across the Atlantic and way down into the Wandle Delta. Now why? Should a fella from South West London play this sort of music, simple really, I kind of grew up with it. My Dad had a pile of 78 records of all different styles Within this stack of shellac was some jazz and a bit of blues and I just got hooked. Then along came the 1950's, Rock 'n' Roll, Skiffle, R 'n' B etc; Merry ol' England didn't know what hit it. I started playing a bit of harmonica along with some friends of mine who were into old timey and mountain music, then I fell in with some blues musicians, their harp player left so I took his place. Next thing you know the singer left so I replaced him too. After a time the band began to break up, as they do. This left me with a bit of a problem as I'd got the flavour of playing in public so finding my options rather limited I got hold of an old guitar and learned the usual basics and went for the folk clubs. A good crack in the 1960's, full of talent and audiences even, eh! After this the years trundled by, getting bands off the ground, bands with such exotic names as "the Colin Tozer Blues Band", "Spare Part", "Urban Screw", "Toe-Rag" and the infamous "Bluesmobile. The next venture was the "Acoustic Café" which I started with an old friend of mine-Tony Barker, it was at this time that we formed a successful duo called the "Laidback Brothers". This was a very satisfying time as in the past we had met up around the Folk club scene. And so it continued, until I discovered Brittany and finally moved over here 2 years ago, I'm now playing all over Brittany, sometimes solo, sometimes with great french musicians or with my English band "Ol' Boots and Blisters" and it's on fire.
