Story behind the song
There was a complex process leading up to this piece that involved each of us reading and recording brief excerpts from "The Ending of Time", a metaphysical dialogue between J. Krishnamurti and physicist Dr. David Bohm. (Frank took Bohm's part and I did Krishnamurti). Playing back that tape we sampled from it and played those samples back into the mix. We also each had a list of single words chosen from the book and we were supposed to sample and play those in random order, but I found out later that Frank was consciously selecting his words in response to the ones I played. (Ruined I tell you, the piece is ruined! lol, actually it worked out well that way.) Then I sampled treated guitar maybe mixed with a synth note and recorded a long bass part on the sampler's on-board sequencer. With the spoken and sampled words tape running and the bass sequence playing, Frank played Sax and I played guitar, jamming to the samples. Then in a second overdub (this was done on the fly during transfer from one cassette to another) we both played percussion.
