It's just me and my guitar. Sometimes, friends help.
My name is Danny and I make music.
Story behind the song
It's about what all love songs are about... asphalt, man-made lakes and women's air rifle competitions.
Actually, the real seed of this song can be traced back to the fact that my friends and I started using instant message terms in our every day speech: brb, roflmao, wtf, and most importantly bf and bff--- boyfriend, and best friend forever. This song is one in a long line of songs that began with a real quote from a conversation I had: "We'll just see what happens after the summer, when I go from her bf, to her bff."
Writing this song resulted in me receiving a scar on my left elbow. So, this song became the story behind that scar.
This song was written a few months after "I died in El Paso." but I still felt they were connected somehow, as I played El Paso alot around the time I was writing "Shoulder of the Road". So, that, coupled with the musical similarity is what lead them to be linked on the E.P.
I ran this song by a lot of friends before considering it done. One who springs to mind is Bram Newman. He helped me figure out some of it. Also, it was written on Joel Swedlove's guitar.
It debuted in a gaga pit.
It was written for Hannah Reff.
