Story behind the song
The Story Behind the Song: I was transferred from Atlanta to Dayton, Ohio by my company back in 1968, and had to live in a motel four months while my wife stayed behind to sell our house. My wife would fly up to see me from Atlanta on weekends when she could. I would take her to the Dayton Airport to catch a 11:45 PM midnight special back home. One night just her plane pulled out of a ramp, a light shone on the nose of the big jet, and I saw someone had painted the name Night-Wind across its nose. I watched it fly over the trees until it was out of sight as she left.
Lyrics
NIGHT-WIND Hear that night-wind sighing in the trees In the twilight of a summer's eve I still see her standing in the moonlight And my heart is longing for her love There's a fragrance of flowers in the air It reminds me of her soft brown hair But my loved one is far away tonight And her voice calls softly in the wind I have a sweet aching need deep in my soul Like a fire burning wild, out of control Since my sweetheart is gone I get so lonely Oh how I wish she'd come home, on the night-wind There's a heartache burning in my mind Every moment I am left behind Soon I'll see her running through the meadow She will kiss me softly as the wind She'll sate this sweet aching need within my soul Bring that wild burning fire, under control While my sweetheart is gone I get so lonely Oh how I wish she'd come home, on the night-wind Oh how I wish she'd come home, on the night-wind
