A "protest" song of sorts
Acoustic Folk from Portland, OR
Story behind the song
There's a lot of things hidden in this song. from childern saying that they hate others because their parents told them to, to other ideas of not trusting yourself and how the media messes with your perception to how people sometimes use religion as an excuse or a "sin eraser". We pass all of these things on generation to generation and if we don't stop, everything bad in the world can never have a chance to change.
Lyrics
You Will See
Suffering sickly I feel indistinctly that somebody out there forgot
That sweetness in life never went for a price
And goodness isn’t something you buy
And I think through our days that our lives slipped away
And turned to a burden to bear
How long will we blindly reduce our own eyesight
Not let our eyes see what is there?
But in a world of deceit and political heat
And you don’t know who to believe
Take a good look around where the answers are found
Look hard and soon you will see
And so what’s it to you to scream halleluiah
And think that your lives will be saved
Gave faith to yourself and kept God on a shelf
But you’ll still end up dead in your grave
And so your legacy of mind you left it behind
You’ll never have to see it again
And so with your passing your ignorance lasting
You brand on the shoulders of man
But when a five year old hates
And these minds we have raped
We can’t think were setting them free
Take a good look around where the answers are found
Look hard and soon you will see
You will see…
Now over these years our minds filled with fear
From preachers and teachers you see
The source though it changed, still its message remained
You’ll be safe if you listen to me
So I went along and sang all their songs
Didn’t think twice about why
Did well in school and played by the rules
‘Till I realized their game was a lie
And so I’ve had enough
Seen too much of this stuff
Is there anyone out there that’s real?
Or has trendiness taken you, sold you, erased you
Who used to be able to feel
More than yourself
A simpler disguise
You’re real down in there
I see though your eyes
You heard what I said
You’re flaws are all lies
It’s there black and white
Between the red lines
You will see…
Now here’s your fair warning on every new morning
You can’t look away from the light
The job of a repair has got to start somewhere
There’s room for one more in this fight
Our numbers are small but were heeding this call
And breaking this strangling chain
And though night seems so long I can see a new dawn
These shadows with shorten again
Now I’m making a choice by using my voice
The say that I can cause I’m free
I took a good look around, these answers I found
Look hard and you too will see
You will see…
Suffering sickly I feel indistinctly that everyone out here forgot...
