I was working on an Old Time version of Amazing Grace, and decided to write my own verse to the tune that fell out. It seemed like a good platform for a civil war song
Lyrics
I was not born a soldier boy
For killing with my gun
But I have signed my life away
To fight upon Bull Run
I do not know how it began
Or what the fighting's for
I only know it's kill or die
Such is the way of war
They say they're from the northern land
The statesmen disagree
They called for fighting lines be drawn
Such fighting falls to me
A gaze upon your silken hair
The tears strain your fair face
I pray I see you once again
Return to your embrace
And now I bid thee fare-thee-well
The drums they call all men
If I should die, please bury me
And marry once again
