The Lassen Climb

The song I wrote about climbing Mt. Lassen last Summer. Hints of Gladiator are also in it.
piano keyboard instrument
Incredible instrumental piano music by Josh Brahm! He also records with guitar, bass and drums.
My name is Josh Brahm, I'm 21 and I've been playing music for 17 years. I play piano, guitars, bass and drums, so I usually record my music alone in my home studio. Most of my music is inspired by love and friendship, and the memories I have of growing up.

Story behind the song
Mt. Lassen is a 10,000+ foot mountain in Northern California, the last few thousand I climbed with a friend of mine last Summer. For a rugged mountain climber, it would have been a relatively easy climb, but for someone like me, it was the hardest physical thing I had ever done. We had been listening to the Gladiator soundtrack on the way, and sometimes we would hum the theme as we climbed, part for fun and partially because it gave us extra strength. His birthday was coming up, and when I asked him what he wanted, he asked me to write a song about climbing Lassen, and to include hints of Gladiator in it. I spent the afternoon at church using different strings and motion synths off of the Korg Trinity to get the main sound I wanted. I also added brass in parts of it, and then I spent about 5 hours engineering all the pieces together. It starts out with a soft overture. This symbolizes driving up to the mountain and beholding the beauty of it. We also went to a small lake at the foot of the mountain, a lake that we would watch get smaller and saller as we climbed to the peak. The water on the surface was almost completely clear, and you could look at the bottom of the lake while at the same time, look at the reflection of the mounatin peak on the surface. The overture moves to the main theme, which is climbing the moinatin. It was very grueling, but fun at the same time, so I didn't want it to sound real scary, but driven. And then the main theme from Gladiator fades in, which of ourse is what we chanted half the time we were climbing. Then it moves to a slower theme in a major key, which is what it was like at the peak. Looking down so far, seeing how high we had climbed, to the point where we could throw snow balls at each other in the middle of Summer! It was so serene, and you can also hear hints of the Gladiator theme in a major format. And then we climbed down, thus the earlier theme, but more driven because we hadn't eaten all day and were very hungry! I hope you enjoy this audio picture of what that climb was for me!
