It seems that whenever there is "good news" in the papers today, it is talking about some celebrity, some athelete, or some soldier who performed some great act or received some great award. My Alma Mater is more than happy to print pictures of alumni who are church leaders, have recieved professional commendations, or some other nonsense. I wince every time I see a picture of the guy who used to watch dirty movies in the dorm shaking hands with President Bush, or to hear about the guy teaching religion at the university who I had to chase off of a 13 year old girl during a mission trip.
It turns my stomach to think of all of the heroes that I knew who faced secret pain beyond any measure, who stood against countless adversity and were never recognized.
Lyrics
Courage
Courage. . .
I’ll never dismiss
That freedom was bought by men who fought
When a price is paid, sacrifice made
I’ll be proud of those stood
But I can’t deny
Courage comes in all shapes and sizes
There are thousands of heroes who were true to themselves
And most of them without medals or prizes
Courage. . .
I don’t need any hero tales
Of blood and war anymore
To give one’s life is no greater deed
Than to live one’s life in truth
History can tell the tale
Of a thousand cowards storming barricades
It takes a stronger man to understand
Than to throw himself on a hand grenade
Courage. . .
For the ones who fought
The ones who taught
Never complained
Went against the grain
For Coming out
To go without
To raise a child
To give a smile
To never be something you’re not
To be the one to put the ape in apricot
To stand or fall to give it all
Even though your back’s up against the wall
This is for all of the unsung heroes
This is for all of the unsung heroes
