hiphop singer songwriter soul rb underground sade nomi
Nomi, Hip Hop, Soul, Underground, R&B, Sade, singer, songwriter
Nomi began her studio work and songwriting at the age of 12. Not yet having her hands on the proper production team and not satisfied with mediocre production, she worked off of samples from the heavily influential streets of her hometown, Sunset Park in Brooklyn, New York. Her love for Hip-hop was born. Over time she has sharpened her singing and songwriting skills, developing her signature sound of melodically flowing over loops fit for any emcee. She began collaborating with hip hop production teams from New York to Miami in her first attempts to create original material. She took a break in the summer of '01 to relocate and become the lead singer of an underground UK pop group The Speed Angels. Her break from New York and work with Oasis' producer Owen Morris gave her an influential serving of the UK sound. She grew a love for bands such as Portishead and Depeche Mode. When returning to New York she dove right into Hip-Hop's Underground in search of a sound that deviated from top 40 commercial Hip-Hop and R&B. She sought out producers with these same influences who were willing to combine these genres with her soulful style. Her collaborations with hip hop's underground is the basis of her debut album. Gritty hip hop beats, dark melodies and deep, dreamy, soulful vocals reminiscent of Sade and Mary J. Blige with a hint of old school New York freestyle are the ingredients that make up Nomi's sound. Her lyrics read like poetry torn from the pages of her diary. Her sound has often been compared to a union between Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA and Sade. Her album is due out Spring 2005 on her own independent label Park Side Records. Living without any artistic boundaries, Nomi is also delving into other projects. She studied fashion design for 6 years and will be releasing a line of clothing and tote bags this Spring which will be available off her website and local boutiques in New York. Standing at 5’9’’ this 22 year old of Puerto Rican and French decent has also tried her hand at modeling. She immediately realized the devotion one needs for success in the modeling industry. Her dedication to music is the most prevalent in her life but she still loves the art of creating images. She will be working with various photographers and makeup artists in New York on a Concept Calendar for 2007.

Story behind the song
You Revive Me, the dark and mysterious hip hop ballad produced by West Coast native Skwirm, documents the journey to love and knowledge. The haunting chorus chants “you revive me like a dream/you revive me like a storm/you revive me like a woman scorned/a bullet to my mind.” Nomi compares the awakening of true love to the power of what this world creates after events which drown us down and out awaken us to a stronger brighter tomorrow. She paints a picture of a being, lost in darkness who is saved by an unknown force and led to a machine built to revive it’s consumer in a single glance. “all of my life I wondered/will it ever be/silently it was there looking out for me/satellite looking down in the night.”
Lyrics
You revive me like a dream You revive me like a storm You revive me like a woman scorned A bullet to my mind Now when I ran out of luck that’s When you stumbled in my life And you served me a portion Teaspoon of your remedy Shone a way in the darkness Guided me up to a throne And I stared right into the Eyes of the machine You revive me like a dream You revive me like a storm You revive me like a woman scorned A bullet to my mind Overwhelming to me the Gears and all the ways they turned In a gaze it was over Input all your data into me Found a serial number Jot down in my memory I remain here forever With my warranty You revive me like a dream You revive me like a storm You revive me like a woman scorned A bullet to my mind All of my life I wondered Will it ever be Silently it was there looking out for me Satellite looking down in the night You had your path to ponder Leading up to me Broke down every bit of anatomy And it made me the woman I am You revive me You revive me You revive me Woman scorned A bullet to my mind
