Coarse voice, intelligent lyrics, intricate wordplay, hailing from South-east London
PRESS RELEASE Artist: CLG EP: Streets, Demons and Fears Release Date: 29/11/04 UNLOCKING THE NEGATIVE TO OPEN UP THE POSITIVE 'Streets, Demons and Fears' is the debut solo EP by CLG. With his distinctively coarse and rasping voice, CLG delivers intelligent, honest and meaningful lyrics, woven together through the use of intricate wordplay. Tackling issues such as poverty, self-hatred, and the fear of failing to overcome these inner and outer obstacles, each song serves a purpose relevant to the EP title: Streets: Paranoid sentiments of someone living in the midst of drug abuse and crime (Stay Sharp) A visual depiction of Inner City environments and homelessness (Concrete Life) Poverty’s impact on an individual's way of living and thinking (Troubled Souls) The so-called ‘street’ bling culture in rap (Same Waffle) - [‘Same Waffle’ serves as a light-hearted intermission between what precedes it and what follows on from it] Demons: The struggle against the enemy within (Black Hole) The point of regaining esteem (Restoration of Pride) Fears: Reflections on the fears of failure, and further on to death, God and religion (Ease the Pain) The EP culminates in the refreshingly honest title track 'Streets, Demons and Fears', which fully encapsulates the overall theme of the EP. There are featured emcee appearances by respected UK artists Manage and Sirplus, plus Trz & Kelz of The Souljah Clique. There are also appearances by up and coming UK artists Griz Bear & Relly, CLG's brother D-Raw and long time rapping friend Mister-E. Furthermore, there is a featured appearance by New York artist Seedpopular (from One Life). Production is provided by Chemo (who has produced for US artist Cage), Trz of The Souljah Clique (who has worked with the likes of Rodney P, K.Ners and Oshin from 57th Dynasty / Independent Hype), Movemakers (who produce for Jools & Gems and Royalty), REK, Mister-E & CLG himself. Cuts are provided by DJ Quest (2003 UK DMC Champion and 3rd in the 2003 Wold DMC Championships) & DJ Snuff. CLG Short Biography: At the turn of the new millennium, CLG came to prominence on the open mic circuit before forming ‘Expect No Mercy’ with Manage, DX and Kope.
