Long ago in kingdom's past
Lived a maiden fair
Locked inside her ivory tower
And no man entered there
She lived her life waiting
For the promised one
In the two princes before her
The quest had just begun
One was all she'd wanted
The knight of many a dream
Shining armor on a fast horse
Too good to believe
Yet another prince came calling
Professing his devotion
And in her heart, she saw
That he offered true emotion
She climbed back to her tower
For she knew not what was true
The second offered everything
The first prince could not do
But how could she ignore
Her heart beat for the first
The choice weighing inside her mind
She called upon her nurse
She told of the two princes
And the thoughts of her heart
The light-headed feeling that she
Had felt from the very start
The nurse she looked and smiled
Asked why there was a choice
It was obvious to all
The first would hear her voice
So she called them to the castle
Send the second on his way
Opened the door to her tower
Invited the first to stay
They climbed every stair
Their heart's bursting with pride
But as they reached the top
A shout came from the outside
And they rushed to the ledge
The forgotten prince below
Laughed and pointed at his loss
But why, I'll never know
For that prince returned their gaze
Tears greeting every laugh
"I loved too hard and too intense"
He carved his epitaph
