Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany
For songwriters who dont sing or perform it is extremely hard to make ones mark in the music business because they dont have a platform to present and promote their work. This is more or less the situation that I, Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany, have been confronted with since I started writing songs in 1978. My idea is to complement my songwriting capabilities with the "helping hands" of excellent artists, musicians and innovative producers. In the age of the internet it has become easier to communicate and collaborate with musicians and producers all over the world. I am utilizing the internet and pursuing the idea of a conceptual studio band with a frequently changing lineup of artists. I call this project the "Rob B. Project" since I supply the melodies and/or lyrics of a song and other musicians/producers/songwriters contribute their talents and skills to make it come to life.

Story behind the song
I'm often asked, what the first song I ever wrote was and when I wrote it. Well, I started writing lyrics at the age of 17. I couldn't play any instruments back then. I was around 20 when I started recording myself singing on a cassette tape. "Before We Say Goodbye" was the first song I ever composed like that. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. According to songwriting rules you never start a song with the chorus. Well, somehow it works here. Years later I recorded this song with instruments and complex canon singing with interweaving melodies and background vocals. I remember playing my demo for Andrew Gold in his studio in Los Angeles. He loved it and started playing the chorus and singing to it. He said it was dangerously catchy. I recently recorded the song once again with AI musicians and vocalists. My complex vocals were too much for the AI engine, but I'm more than satisfied with what it now sounds like. Welcome again to the 70s. You can hear I was inspired by the South African band Clout (Save Me, Substitute).
Lyrics
Before We Say Goodbye [Chorus] Before we say goodbye Let's just give it one more try tonight And when we say goodnight Let's not talk and let's not fight tonight Let's try one more time tonight [Verse 1] You and me, yeah, we shared dreams A real good thing, that's how it seemed But those days have now come to an end [Verse 2] We both feel sad, we both feel blue (both feel blue) Can we ever start it new (start it new) But now what's gone just might return again [Pre-chorus] Together we have reached Many of our aims The past has left its scars (left it's scars) Filled our minds and filled our hearts with pain Woah, baby, [Chorus] Before we say goodbye (goodbye goodbye) Let's just give it one more try tonight And when we say goodnight (goodnight goodnight) Let's not talk and let's not fight tonight Let's try one more time tonight [Verse 3] You say you love me and I love you You want your freedom, I want mine too Maybe somehow we can work it out [Verse 4] We can make it if we try (if we try) Talk to each other, eye to eye (eye to eye) I'm sure that somehow we can work it out [Pre-chorus] Deep within our hearts Once there burned a flame The fire has now died down Light it oh and it can burn again Woah, baby, [Chorus] Before we say goodbye (goodbye goodbye) Let's just give it one more try tonight And when we say goodnight (goodnight goodnight) Let's not talk and let's not fight tonight Let's try one more time tonight [Chorus] Before we say goodbye (before we say goodbye) Let's just give it one more try tonight (before we say goodnight) And when we say goodnight (goodnight goodnight) Let's not talk and let's not fight tonight (before we say goodbye) Let's try one more time tonight (before we say goodbye) Before we say goodbye
