Lyrics
Since the dusty day, I drove away from my boyhood Texas home the hands of fate and time, tugged this heart of mine like an old wishbone I never really knew, where I was goin' to or what I wanted from life I kept a gypsy's code, and each fork in the road cut tomorrow like a knife I oil-rigged in Oklahoma wrangled in Arizona ran a little bootleg whiskey when I joined a travelin' band ,I left a red-haired gal in the sand crying for me in Corpus Christi then call it a crazy fluke, one night I hit a juke and downed a jug of wine are bottles wishing wells, well maybe time would tell if most drunken hearts told time but my eyes slowly blurred, and I heard wispy words as a genie rose from that jug he wore a sequined turban, the color of bourbon and rode stale smoke like a flying rug that bottle was the lamp of Aladdin I could trade my jeans for satin cos men's wants are mostly pleasure he granted me one wish, I could be famous or rich buying trust and friends with my treasure but those things are just wind, so I looked closely at him feeling sad and haunted then I bowed my head, and softly said "I wish I knew what I wanted "he said to me, "so shall it be" then vanished in the smoke and I still love the last thing, I saw in that dream right before I awoke cos for the first time in years my future seemed bright and clear though that dream was kinda misty I hopped in my old car, burned it like a shooting star back to that redhead in Corpus Christi
