Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany
For songwriters who dont sing or perform it is extremely hard to make ones mark in the music business because they dont have a platform to present and promote their work. This is more or less the situation that I, Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany, have been confronted with since I started writing songs in 1978.
My idea is to complement my songwriting capabilities with the "helping hands" of excellent artists, musicians and innovative producers. In the age of the internet it has become easier to communicate and collaborate with musicians and producers all over the world. I am utilizing the internet and pursuing the idea of a conceptual studio band with a frequently changing lineup of artists. I call this project the "Rob B. Project" since I supply the melodies and/or lyrics of a song and other musicians/producers/songwriters contribute their talents and skills to make it come to life.
Story behind the song
I started writing songs at the age of 17. Music is a force of human connection, resilience, and imagination - one of the most powerful tools we have to understand and express what it means to be alive.
To me, living without music is like living without breathing, drinking or eating.
Lyrics
More Than a Melody
[Verse 1]
It started with a heartbeat, then a line I had to write
A whisper in the silence, turning darkness into light
I found a world in rhythm, a truth inside the sound
When everything went quiet, the music stuck around
[Pre-Chorus]
It lifts me up, it pulls me in
It speaks the words I keep within
Every note's a piece of me
More than just a harmony
[Chorus]
It's more than a melody, more than a song
It's where I go when I can't go on
It's breath in my lungs, fire in my soul
The beat of my heart when I lose control
It's joy, it's pain, it's everything true
It's how I remember, it's how I push through
Music's not just what I do, it's who I'm meant to be
It's more than a melody - it's me
[Verse 2]
Music crosses every border, breaks down every wall
It dances through the heartbreak, softens every fall
A crowd of strangers singing, suddenly one voice
Whether loud or alone music gives me choice
[Pre-Chorus]
It lifts me up, it pulls me in
It speaks the words I keep within
Every note's a piece of me
More than just a harmony
[Chorus]
It's more than a melody, more than a song
It's where I go when I can't go on
It's breath in my lungs, fire in my soul
The beat of my heart when I lose control
It's joy, it's pain, it's everything true
It's how I remember, it's how I push through
Music's not just what I do, it's who I'm meant to be
It's more than a melody - it's me
[Bridge]
It's the tears on my guitar, laughter in the rain
It's how I say "I love you", how I carry pain
It's dancing in my bedroom, the calm inside the storm
It's home when I'm lost, it's where I feel warm
[Final Chorus]
It's more than a melody, more than a song
It's where I go when I can't go on
It's breath in my lungs, fire in my soul
The beat of my heart when I lose control
It's joy, it's pain, it's everything true
It's how I remember, it's how I push through
Music's not just what I do, it's who I'm meant to be
It's more than a melody - it's me
[Outro]
It's more than a melody - it's me
