Lyrics
I was on a field trip with my fourth grade class There were crowded round a fossil from the ancient past Me, I saw an old map of the seven seas When the earth was flat and ripe for rich discoveries In the corner was a drawing of a dragons head And beside that drawing was a poem that read Here be monsters Captain and his compass best beware Let the timid man, cling to steady land Let all others leave port if they dare Long before the New World altered history Distant oceans were a fearful mystery Yet sailors had a heart of courage to obey So they set sail for the unknown, anyway Some were shipwreckedsome were lost on islands, left for dead But the lucky few who made it homeward said Here be monsters Captain and his compass best beware Let the timid man, cling to steady land Let all others leave port if they dare Well, a new idea Is an ocean full of wonder If you sail those waters People try to pull you under With my heart and inner visions at the helm I have tried to voyage to uncharted realms Though Ive foundered many times and learned what failure means I still sail among these dragons on a ship of dreams Here be monsters Captain and his compass best beware Let the timid man, cling to steady land Let all others leave port if they dare O if you set a pilgrims course You may suffer for it But when you reach exotic shores Youll be tougher for it
