Tomatoes, 25 Cents a Pound
The name is self-explanatory.
I came up with this artist name on a whim when Suno insisted that I create one. I use this alter ego of sorts to differentiate my AI-generated music from my other recording hobbies. I used Chat GPT to make the lyrics and then ran them through Suno to turn them into music. Some of my songs required manually combining parts of different generative attempts in order to get the finished song.
Story behind the song
An autobiographical song about selling produce from our garden in a roadside stand when I was a kid
Lyrics
Verse 1:
Set up the sign, letters painted by hand
Put out the chairs in the elm tree's shade
Settin' up shop with a roadside stand
On the old red table that Grandpa made
Curious customers stopped for a look
On the way down 8400 West
I'd set up the scale and I'd set down my book
Knowing our stuff was best of the best
Pre-Chorus:
Scott had his junk cars
And Ron had his chickens
But we had it better
'Cause we had the garden
Chorus:
Tomatoes, twenty-five cents a pound
Corn and peaches, cucumbers too
Best in town, come gather round
Summertime selling, under skies so blue
Verse 2:
Simpler days, there was no better place
Wadin' knee deep in the irrigation ditch
With my hands in the dirt, and the sun on my face
Pickin' tomatoes hopin' we could get rich
Fold up the chairs and put away the sign
Coins in a jar, and the day's work done
Sellin' tomatoes made you feel mighty fine
Didn't make a lot but it sure was fun
Pre-Chorus:
Scott had his junk cars
And Ron had his chickens
But we had it better
'Cause we had the garden
Chorus:
Tomatoes, twenty-five cents a pound
Corn and peaches, cucumbers too
Best in town, come gather round
Summertime selling, under skies so blue
(guitar solo)
Chorus:
Tomatoes, twenty-five cents a pound
Corn and peaches, cucumbers too
Best in town, come gather round
Summertime selling, under skies so blue
