Singer Songwriter Guitarist from York England
I am a York based singer/songwriter/guitarist and started my career back in 1998. My first guitar lesson was when I was 36 and it took some time to get the hang of it and I am sure Vanessa at times regretted ever getting me started! I wrote my first song in 1998 and played live for the first time in 1999. I have released a few self-penned albums in my time the most successful being One Year Out from which 2 tracks In Your Arms and You Were There were used on TV in the Netherlands. I still perform regularly in and around the York area and also in Bury St Edmunds where I lived for 30 years. I have played the biggest gigs of my musical journey so far at the Grand Opera House in aid of Ukraine and The Barbican in aid of York Against Cancer in 2023 and a year later for York rocks Christmas and I can definitely say they were incredible and are memories I will treasure.
Story behind the song
Most of my adult life I have struggled with self confidence but bizarrely this started to improve once I started to play live music at the age of 40 !
Lyrics
As a kid I was dreamer, I didnt have a clue
Why the world in all its glory, left me feeling blue
So I escaped to a place, all alone in my head
Where the noises all around me, fade away instead
So I can breathe, so I can breathe, so I can breathe,
Then I could change my life, maybe start to see the light
And breathe, I can breathe.
Ive been standing in the shadows, for most of my life
Always under cover, afraid to seek the light
Never one to shine, always been to weak
But now Ive found my voice, its time for me to speak
If I can breathe, if I can breathe, if I can breathe,
Then I could change my life, maybe start to see the light
And breathe, I can breathe.
Ive always had a feeling; Id get into the game
But I couldnt quite believe it, when someone called my name
If I can only find the courage, to take another step
Then the world in all its glory may just makes some sense
if I can breathe, if I can breathe,
Then I could change my life, maybe start to see the light
And breathe, I can breathe.

Hard to believe you started your musical journey so late in life. Sounds like a seasoned pro to me. Enjoyed the song.
