Story behind the song
In 2008 seeing all the anti LGBTQ hate within their communities, Jamal White, Jackson Winters, and Kai Lacrosse wrote this song. The transgender line was ahead of its time since most at the time in 2008 ignored the transgender community. It was easy for Kai Lacrosse and Jamal White to stand up for transgender people everywhere with their co writer of this song Jackson being a trans man.
Lyrics
**Intro** Hey Tony can give me a Medley beat its time for bigotry to take a seat 603 Records 2008 Yo, this for the ones who been silenced too long, Who got the courage in their hearts to keep pushin on. Love is love, cant nobody take that, Time to fight back, homie, we reclaim that. **Verse 1** Its 2008, time to stop the hate and we still in the fight, Equality aint a privilegeits a basic right. They wanna legislate love, tryna shut us down, But we built this world too; we wear the crown. From the ballroom scenes to the pride parade, We celebrate who we are, never ashamed. But they criminalize love, demonize truth, While our people face the hate from the church to the booth. This for the youth, scared to show their face, Livin in a world full of judgment and hate. But yo, hold your ground, dont let em erase, Your storys revolutionaryits takin its place. **Chorus** Stand up, speak out, we here to unite, Shine a light on the struggle, turn wrong into right. Love is a weapon, we breakin the chains, For every soul in the fight whos been hidin in pain. **Verse 2** Rainbow flags flyin, fists in the air, Stonewall was a riot, we still takin it there. For every trans kid they tried to erase, We gon paint the world in color, fill every space. Legislation cant break whats built in our hearts, This a family, a movement, and we play our part. They call it an agenda, we call it our lives, Just tryna exist, just tryna survive. Its a system built to divide and confuse, But we smarter, stronger, and we refuse to lose. From the poets and the dancers to the ones on the stage, This a love revolution, turnin the page. **Chorus** Stand up, speak out, we here to unite, Shine a light on the struggle, turn wrong into right. Love is a weapon, we breakin the chains, For every soul in the fight whos been hidin in pain. **Bridge** They say its a phase; we say its forever, Tired of the lies; we gon change this together. From small towns to the big city streets, This a fight for humanity, we takin the lead. Teach the next gen that they worthy of love, That they shine like the stars in the heavens above. No more closets, no more shame, We breakin out free, and we changin the game. **Outro** Man why in 2008 we still be saying In this empire that's decaying This a call to action, a rallying cry, For the ones who been ignored, marginalized, denied. Yo, its bigger than music, its bigger than fame, Its about respect and dignity, remember the name. Stand up, speak out, our time is now, We gon break these walls, tear the hate down. Love wins, and the truth will always remain, This is our 2008 anthem revolutionary flame.
