Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany
For songwriters who dont sing or perform it is extremely hard to make ones mark in the music business because they dont have a platform to present and promote their work. This is more or less the situation that I, Robert Baitinger, a songwriter from Germany, have been confronted with since I started writing songs in 1978.
My idea is to complement my songwriting capabilities with the "helping hands" of excellent artists, musicians and innovative producers. In the age of the internet it has become easier to communicate and collaborate with musicians and producers all over the world. I am utilizing the internet and pursuing the idea of a conceptual studio band with a frequently changing lineup of artists. I call this project the "Rob B. Project" since I supply the melodies and/or lyrics of a song and other musicians/producers/songwriters contribute their talents and skills to make it come to life.
Story behind the song
They say "You can't fix someone who doesn't want to be fixed, but you can ruin your life trying". So true. I know so many people who have experienced something like that, including me. I thought I could use that theme for this song. Everyone who has gone though the same situation can relate to these lines.
Lyrics
I Can't Fix You
[Verse]
I thought I could save you, make you whole
Mend all the pieces you let fall
I carried your weight, I carried your pain
But in the end, I drowned in the rain
[Verse]
You never asked, never let me in
I kept pushing, again and again
But I can't fix you if you won't change
Now I'm the one lost in the rage
[Pre-Chorus]
I can't control what you do
But I've wasted so much time on you
I forgot what it's like to be whole
Chasing you'n losing control
[Chorus]
I can't fix you, no matter how I try
You're just a shadow of the person I thought I'd find
I can't change your mind, can't make you see
But I can choose to set myself free
I can't fix you, I'm not gonna try
I'll find my peace and say goodbye
I can't fix you, cause you don't want me to
No, you don't want me to
[Verse]
You'll do what you're gonna do
I learned it's not about me or you
Done with the worry, done with the stress
Learning to live with a little less mess
[Pre-Chorus]
I can't control what you do
But I've wasted so much time on you
I forgot what it's like to be whole
Chasing you'n losing control
[Chorus]
I can't fix you, no matter how I try
You're just a shadow of the person I thought I'd find
I can't change your mind, can't make you see
But I can choose to set myself free
I can't fix you, I'm not gonna try
I'll find my peace and say goodbye
I can't fix you, cause you don't want me to
No, you don't want me to
[Verse]
I've been burned, I've been bruised
But I'm done with all the broken news
I'm walking away, it's my choice
I'm choosing joy, I'm finding my voice
[Break]
[Chorus]
I can't fix you, no matter how I try
You're just a shadow of the person I thought I'd find
I can't change your mind, can't make you see
But I can choose to set myself free
I can't fix you, I'm not gonna try
I'll find my peace and say goodbye
I can't fix you, cause you don't want me to
No, you don't want me to
[Outro]
I can't fix you, but I'm learning to fly
I'm finding a way, to let the past say goodbye
