Story behind the song
This song is about the classic Bible Story of the Fall of Jericho, but with a twist. . .it is told from the point of view of the inhabitants of the Palestinian City that were summarily slaughtered by the invading Israelites. This song is not intended to be Anti-Semitic by any stretch of the imagination, but it is an indictment of the sort of blind faith that religious fanatacism calls for and the crimes that are done in the name of God. Whether it is Joshua's claim that God told him to slaughter every last man woman and child in Jericho, or Osama Bin Laden's claim that he mastermind the 9/11 tragedy, anyone who claims that God has legitimized Genocide, murder, rape, and destruction is a liar. In My mind, the Israeli conquest of Palestine (or even their current atrocities there) is no different than Hitler's Conquest of Poland and the resulting Holocaust. . .The history of the Judeo/Christian/Islamic Faiths are replete with such atrocities. . .the sacred texts are written in blood.
