Rhyming Mimes - What You've Made
Two pensioners trying to annoy as many people as possible.
Story behind the song
We began writing this song 41 years ago in 1983! It started when Philip began playing the guitar riff while at a practice session. Stephen added the vocal and bass parts but got stuck on the second half of the lyrics and so it was never completed.
Philip and Stephen went their separate ways soon after.
Forty one years later they agreed to finish the song and record it. Once Stephen realised his original lyric was really about a sociopath the rest of the lyric came easily!
Lyrics
Youre just a memory
With too many enemies
There when you wake, there when you try to sleep
Too many enemies, all on the inside
One strikes the matches, one fans the bright flame
One pulls the stitches, one finds a new blade
One takes your last breath, one steals the punchline
One hides the blood stains, one buys you more time
What Youve Made has put you in a trap
What to take and when to give it back
Try to wake a conscience that you lack
If you could analyse, all that you have inside
All that you hate, all that you want to hide
If you could analyse, whats on the inside
Lay out in straight lines, iron out the creases
but nothing matches, cut into pieces
Put on a brave face, not for the first time
Whatever hatches, its time to decide
What Youve Made has put you in a trap
What to take and when to give it back
Try to wake a conscience that you lack
