Pink Floyd - Young Lust

The Floyd classic about being young, lonely and horny in the big city.

to work on, and generally get them about three-quarters done. At this point I typically get bored or find something more compelling to work on, so I probably have close to fifty projects in progress. I've finished, at last count, one. album. I was hoping to have it done in time for the album's 25 anniversary, but I blew past that dealine without ever looking back. I've been working on it, on and off (mostly off), for longer than I care to think about. The first half of "Shine On" is pretty much done, as is the title track (which I'm planning to release Real Soon Now). "Have A Cigar" is in pretty good shape, but the guitars are gonna take a lot of work (and practice!). "Welcome to the Machine" is in its infancy; I'm going to have to master my Pulsar board to get the synth sounds for that one. The second half of "Shine On" is basically backing tracks at this point. That's another one where the guitars are going to be tough (the slide solo may kill me, but what a way to go).

Story behind the song
I was a bit concerned about releasing this as my first track, since the lyrics sound a bit pathetic when taken out of context (my then-girlfriend, who is not what you would call a Pink Floyd fan, was decidedly unimpressed with the message). Anyway, I wanted to get something posted in the hope that any feedback would encourage me to get back in the studio (it's been a while), and this was the most polished track I had available. So here it is. I did most of the sequencing a couple of years ago, while I was living in London (a good place to record Floyd tunes :). In fact, I think I did a complete version, with guitars and vox, but I wasn't happy with it. Over a period of months, I tinkered with the MIDI, and eventually managed to record vocal and guitar tracks I was (reasonably) happy with. The MIDI tracks consist of bass, drums, organ, and a little electric piano under the solo. The backing guitar on the solo is also MIDI, simply because I never got around to recording a real guitar for that part. The MIDI tracks are all played through a Korg X5DR, which has a passable rotating speaker effect that you can hear on the organ track. The real guitars are my trusty Strat recorded direct through a Sans-Amp fuzz and crusty old Rocktron compressor. The solo was also run through a Boss flanger. The main guitar track is mono. I made a copy of it and played one copy panned full left; the other, delayed a few milliseconds, is panned full right. This keeps the track centered, while leaving room in the middle for the vocal. Reviews: [Just Cron]: "A classic done 2000 style. True to the original." [??]: "Pink Floyd recreated in all its glory" [Walt]: "Stand back - Dave and Roger are in the house!" [David S]: "More Pink Floyd than Pink Floyd!" [On The Mark]: "One of my favorite Pink Floyd Songs. If you are Floyd Fan, you must listen to this song." [??] "...really an excellent [cover]! Very well performed!" [(anonymous)]:"You suck! Quit now and save your self[sic] the embaressment[sic]! Your voice and rendison[sic] are horrible!!! You suck!
