Story behind the song
Written the evening of Oct. 22nd (2002) while sitting at the computer. I was bored, so I came up with these lyrics. After a few days of trying to figure out what the music should be, I was able to wed the words to several bits of chord structure I've had around for several months. The whole thing has been heavily edited to make the song flow as smooth as possible. While I'm no 'blue-eyed soul singer', hopefully my yelps won't be too hard on the nerves. And no, that's not me playing piano! Buy the CD!
Lyrics
I don’t need a Valentine’s day to tell me what to do Don’t need a cut-out heart to say I give my love to you When every day is a holiday there’s no need to wait No silly game we have to play No circles round any date You never know when I’ll be there with flowers and a card Or something sweet that we could share try to guess, but not too hard So Mr. Cupid, if you dare keep your arrows, keep it all Valentine’s, is so unfair one day, seems too small No cherub on our shoulder to make us slightly frantic No potion to be bolder our love is pure organic I don’t need a Valentine’s day to tell me what to do Don’t need a cut-out heart to say I give my love to you Don’t need a reason anyway to tell you how I feel You have my heart to take away and this one is for real
