The lyrics of this song refer to Mikhail Bakunin who on July 13, 1874 had fireworks in honor of his wife in Minusio facing Lake Maggiore.
It's more about ashes from fireworks than snow. It's also about the disenchantment of the Italian anarchist revolutions of those times.
Lyrics
Il neige sur le lac Majeur
Les oiseaux-lyre sont en pleurs
Et le pauvre vin italien
S'est habillé de paille pour rien
Des enfants crient de bonheur
Et ils répandent la terreur
En glissades et bombardements
C'est de leur âge et de leur temps
J'ai tout oublié du bonheur
Il neige sur le lac Majeur
J'ai tout oublié du bonheur
Il neige sur le lac Majeur
Voilà de nouveaux gladiateurs
Et on dit que le cirque meurt
Et le pauvre sang italien
Coule beaucoup et pour rien
Il neige sur le lac Majeur
Les oiseaux-lyre sont en pleurs
J'entends comme un moteur
C'est le bateau de cinq heures
J'ai tout oublié du bonheur
Il neige sur le lac Majeur
J'ai tout oublié du bonheur
Il neige sur le lac Majeur...
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
The lyrebirds are crying
And the poor Italian wine
Was all dressed in straw but for nothing
The children scream with happiness
And they spread the terror
From glissades to bombing
It's of their age and of their time
I forgot all about happiness
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
I forgot all about happiness
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
Here are new gladiators
And they say the circus dies
And the poor Italian blood
Flows a lot and for nothing
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
The lyrebirds are crying
But I hear like a motor
It's the five o'clock boat
I forgot all about happiness
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
I forgot all about happiness
It's snowing on Lake Maggiore
