Story behind the song
My sister, Debbie, wrote this poem for our sweet Uncle Lee who passed away in 2020, and I set it to music.
Lyrics
Could anyone imagine a kinder, gentler soul,
A man of great devotion to his familial role;
Raillery endearing him to those he loved the most
Ray of sunshine in his eyes, a smile no one could boast,
On a par with his dear wife, a hero to his sons?
Lodestar for his family-from the grown to little ones.
Lengthening his legacy, he tilled the fertile ground.
Little “flow’rs will honor him wherever they are bound.
In the day of autumn, a time to settle down
And with age he hoped to still be around
And with God's endless mercy, he looked to find his peace from above
He prayed Savior, bathe Your servant in the waters of your love!
Eventide approaches; he begins to see the way,
Evaluating choices that led him to this day:
Dogged determination to live his life aright
Unmarred by those temptations which darken inner light.
Pains are all forgotten, heartaches are laid down.
Unseen, hidden crosses are now traded for a crown.
In God’s endless mercy, may he find his peace above.
Savior, bathe Your servant in the waters of Your love!
