James Kalyowa (born January 20, 2000), known professionally as Genius Omuzira aka King Jemcee, is a Ugandan rapper.
He is known for his proverbial lyrical vocabulary and wordcraft.
He released his debut song "Twandibaddeki" in 2019 that earned him recognition and gained a contract with "Africha Entertainment (Afriug) Limited" record label.
Early life
James Kalyowa was born on January 20, 2000 in Luweero District found in Central Uganda.
He is a Muganda by tribe and a member of Enjaza clan.
He grew up in Binyonyi zone(Luweero) and Kikyusa Town where he acquired some his education.
Genius has seven siblings of which two of them are half-sisters from mother.
Music career
According to Genius, his passion for music began from his childhood as he got the aspiration from his parents. When he was a kid, he used to sing for his father and gave him money. His father also told him stories to compose about and promised him studio if he makes good music from them. His mother was a musical trainer of "Traditional Development Association (TDA)" choir, that was formed by a community of women in 2000's.
At schools, Genius never missed Music Dance and Drama lessons. He participated in rap battles and won multiple of them. He also took part in SDA church choirs.
In 2019, he took the first step of his musical journey and recorded his first single "Twandibaddeki" in which he assigned Ugandan musical artistes to other careers had they have been if not joining the music industry.
He later came up with "Ebyalagirwa remix" with singer John Blaq which earned him further recognition.
Genius has worked with both local and international Music Producers including Carlos Gomez of Sin Nombre Studios, Doha who was the recordist of his "Weetunulemu" vocals.
Personal life
Genius resides both in Uganda and abroad.
Behind his stage name, he goes by a moniker of "King Jemcee" and this one came after he philosophized the phonics between his given name "James" and the word "emcee" (his rapper career).
