Story behind the song
When I wrote this song in 1991, I wanted to write about the consequences of war, but in reality, this isn't an anti-war song. The lyrics focus on how militay leaders can sit back, attack, and watch their armies and civilians perish, all while they remain safe behind their desks. I'm not a fan of war, but I do understand why war is inevitable. However, it is a shame how many lives are lost.
Lyrics
Lyrics written in November 1991; Music written in 1991/1992 (1st Verse) Our deep dark earth surrounds us, the smell of death abound. Fate closes in around us, prepare to meet the ground. Pray to the one above us, tell him you're coming home. Tell him there's plenty of us, and none of us are alone. *(Chorus) All that is happening is true, our demise depends on you. Violence becomes our jungle, hatred becomes our friend. Suicide is our existence, as the world comes to an end. (2nd Verse) Our government controls us, hangs strings above our arms, uses us as their puppets, they won't get themselves harmed. We're fighting for our freedom, we fight to stay alive. They figure we can beat 'em, we're lucky if we survive. * (3rd Verse) Peace is forgotten, justice is gone, the world is watching what the Hell is going on. People are drowning in their own tears, washing away life that's grown over the years. Society rests, forever still, civilization has created its own will. The war has emerged, men kill to live, with nothing to gain, and nothing to give. (2nd Chorus) Violence becomes our jungle, hatred becomes our friend. Suicide is our existence, as the world comes to an end. (2x)
