Folk singer, social commentary, satire, people's stories, children's music
Hi Folks, The Bard Insurgent here. My comrade D.O. (the Poet Roofer) and I got that handle (The Bard Insurgents) from traveling town to town performing songs and poetry about people's lives. I've been performing since I was 3 years old, cutting my vocal chords on liturgical and classical music. I was a concert soloist as a child, when I wasn't herding cows, throwing hay and shoveling manure. During the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam war, I began writing songs about social change. I left the country in 1970 and my dozen years in other countries, mostly in Africa & South America, have provided a global perspective to my music. My travels helped me realize that people all around the world are essentially the same in their basic life needs and their desires to live peacefully in their communities. These experiences have informed my commitment to working for international understanding as I organize at home. A powerful way to educate and inspire is with music. I tell people's stories, do social commentary with a touch of satire that I hope you enjoy and share with your friends, as well as sing together in the streets and in your living rooms. I also have children's music written for the children in my life with Jacob and Kayla as primary muses. Looking forward to seeing you on the road, Tom

Story behind the song
An account of when the Cuyahoga River caught on fire
Lyrics
The Cuyahoga’s burning; that water’s pretty thick To take H2O and burn it is Em7 one good trick. Got a good run off of oil; industrial waste in the mix; Take a match from your pocket; you got pyrotechnics And the Arctic is a burning, doesn’t that seem strange? Methane is escaping & turning to flame The caribou and reindeer, eagle and the bear; Losing all their homes along with people there Alaska, Siberia, Brazil Greece, Turkey, Australia till the fire gets its fill Our house is on fire, this extinction’s yours and mine; Drill and spill for oil & gas & watch the carbon climb Yeh the Amazon’s on fire, land grabbing for some soy; Profiteering for some dollars, Bolsonaro will destroy Rainforest trees are the lungs of the earth, But unless you cut and sell them, the trees have got no worth It’s the biomass; incineration industry most all the BTUs go up the chimney If they’re lucky, they’ll get 20% efficiency; Forget about the asthma, cancer and the heart disease At the end of the flood, God gave Noah the rainbow sign He said no more water, it’s the fire next time Well I don’t know about his god and all the prophecies But I know the Armageddon’s when you cut and burn the trees. Our house is on fire, this extinction’s yours and mine Drill and spill for oil & gas & watch the carbon climb I don’t know bout Noah’s god and all the prophecies But I know it’s Armageddon when you cut & burn the trees I don’t know about Noah’s god and all the prophecies But I know it’s Armageddon when you cut & burn the trees.
