Roots rock, high-energy leads, folk-style vocals, hair-band drumming, and jazz-oriented bass lines meet...JESUS??? Yeaaahhh....that's CRISIS (Christian Rock...and More!)
Story behind the song
I took a trip to Nashville a few years back to shop my songs. Along with me went a group of songwriters I had never before met. I was the only woman in the group. We paired off for the long drive and prepared to meet down in Nashville.
My excitement over the trip turned to a bit of trepidation on our first gas stop. My thoughts? "I'm a woman traveling alone, far away from home, in my brand new car, and now I'm handing a strange man my keys..." But he seemed to be a good fellow...
As the day progressed into night and we neared Nashville, we had run out of polite chit-chat. The darkness descended upon us. The scenery now became non-existent, hidden by the blackness around us. An air of mystery and comfort began to surround us. We began to open up to one another on a much deeper level. It felt like a confessional.
I learned that my traveling partner, Vick, is indeed a very nice man. In fact, the whole group turned out to be wonderful--very helpful and supportive. If you'd like to meet some of them, you'll find them at http://www.songwriterscritique.com
Lyrics
Locked up in my cubicle all day at work,
If I don’t escape from here, I’m gonna’ go berserk!
Got no plans for the evenin’, just daydreamin’ of you;
Wonderin’ if there’s somethin’ that the two of us could do?
That’s when I discover what would brighten my day and that’s-uh
DRIVIN’ NAKED DOWN THE HIGHWAY!
Can you picture this, can you imagine the view?
Miles and miles of scenery and a little more of you!
Won’t plan no destination, no specific place to go; cruisin’ to the radio.
Grabbin’ the stickshift, getting’ carried away, and goin’
DRIVIN’ NAKED DOWN THE HIGHWAY!
You can peel off the layers when you talk to me,
Get it off your chest and it will set you free.
When you strip away the things that are bindin’ you,
It’s gonna’ make you feel brand new.
I don’t drive no convertible, my truck is a Ford,
But I’ll be cruisin’ with the top down so you don’t get bored.
I won’t push my speed, use my blinkers when I pass,
Got no cause for reckless drivin’, it’s just dangerous.
So, Mr. Sheriff, sir, put your ticket book away, we’re just-uh
DRIVIN’ NAKED DOWN THE HIGHWAY!
I’ll have the wind on my skin and the sun on my face,
What a lovely, lovely way to communicate!
Like a little old snake sheddin’ off his skin,
You’ll find a better condition within, so
Call your best buddies and we’ll go for a spin
And talk about our problems and our dreams within.
Nothin’ feels better than sharin’ the load and
Tearin’ off the pretense is the only way to go.
So go and ask your momma can you come out and play? and we’ll go
DRIVIN’ NAKED DOWN THE HIGHWAY!
