A song from John Mayall's 'Hard Road' album. I've recorded it this way so that it that it captures the essence of a band playing at a small club. There's no studio trickery ... adding the sound of the audience was the only 'extra' I allowed myself.

Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
Being 'of a certain age', I've always quite liked john Mayall's blues music. This is a song from John's A Hard Road album, the follow-up album to the privious one which featured Eric Clapton...the so called, 'Beano' album. Peter Green was John Mayall's guitarist at this point. This is another of my now legendary (?) mock 'Live', recordings. All first takes, no editing allowed. Let's imagine that it was recorded in a pub venue in your own home town.
Lyrics
Top Of The Hill (John Mayall) 1967 You won't hang around with other people, you won't hold a job for any time. You won't talk to me about tomorrow, you never sit around just a cryin', but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. You've taken all the trouble where you're living. You've taken all the love I had to give. You call around to say you will be dying. I wanna hear you say you wanna live, but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. I've been troubled, I've been blue. I've been so worried all over you. I've been troubled, I've been blue. I've been so worried all over you. but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. guitar solo: #1 but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. I've been troubled, I've been blue. I've been so worried all over you. I've been troubled, I've been blue. I've been so worried all over you. but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. No amount of talk is gonna help you. You've got to find a friend you really need. No use in being really evil. You've got to settle down and take a leap. but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill. guitar solo: #2 I've been troubled, I've been blue. I've been so worried all over you. but when I hear you say you'll be leaving everyday, you'll be coming on top of the hill.

Brilliant!! Wow - you've nailed this good & proper! Fantastic job on the vocals, perfect pitch, great timbre & very expressive. Love the harmonica and the guitar work is first class. Definitely captured that "live" feeling & sound. Thoroughly enjoyed this :))
