Story behind the song
When I first started writing the lyrics for this song in 1992, my original idea was to write about a baseball game. If you listen to the first verse, you can clearly tell that's where I was going with that. But then somehow the message completely steered in the direction of people losing their lives and being stuck in purgatory, and I don't know how!? The music I wrote has a small Metallica sample, can you hear it?
Lyrics
Lyrics and Music written in September 1992 (1st Verse) Time is slowly running out, they begin to scream and shout, all of their cries are heard out loud. Fear becomes their middle name, now that they play the game, where there's no rules, they're not allowed. *(Chorus) Trapped in their own future, caught between the night and day, destiny was calling, and then carried them away in a flash of light! Within a flash of light! (2nd Verse) They know they don't belong, and that something has gone so wrong, knowing their time isn't now. They'll try to break the chains, before it's all too late, but they have no idea how. * (3rd Verse) In a world of second sight, where the dark becomes so light, not seeing what's before their eyes. For when the sun goes down, and the clock stops ticking around, their time will come to say goodbye. *
