Story behind the song
The lyrics to this song were written back in 1996 while I was watching the movie "Cool Hand Luke". I was inspired thinking about a person spending years in jail just waiting for their time to get out. I also challenged myself by giving this song a double meaning, so when you listen to it, you might think it's about escaping a bad relationship, or anything really. It's up to the listener to interpret it any way they wish.
Lyrics
Lyrics written in January 1996; Music written in early 2000's (1st verse) The walls that once surrounded me, the ones made of stone, it seemed they were always hounding me, they wouldn't leave me alone. The years I spent in emptiness, the pain I had to face, how could one man be so confined in a dark secluded place? *(Chorus) Learning to accept the truth is like learning how to fly, waiting for it to set you free can run a man's patience dry. I saw things inside my head, visions I can't describe, I closed my eyes, I soared the sky, the time had arrived, I can breathe again. (2nd verse) The days they seemed like forever, the hours felt like years, I used to think that I could never shed any unwanted tears. I cried so much I found myself drenched up to my knees, I prayed to the guy high in the sky, "Won't you please help me please?" * (Repeat *)
