Story behind the song
Like a lot of my songs, the lyrics begin with a real event (the Hurtigruten ship we were on headed out into a storm) then develop more allegorically. Not too allegorical in this case, though. It occurs to me that the chorus could be interpreted as referring to faith in a strong political leader or divine figure - that is definitely wrong! In this case it refers directly to our ship's captain who got us into safe harbour before the worst of the storm storm hit... (unlike the captain of the nearby Viking cruise ship that was caught out and left wallowing dangerously).
