Lyrics
I can't believe I'm 53,
And I'm still writing poetry.
You'd think I'd finally had my say
And all these lines would fade away.
It's true I gave it up for years;
I needed time to clear my ears
Of some of what I'd heard before,
But now I think I've shut the door,
Which really means the loans are gone,
And I don't have to act upon
The urge to base my whole career
On teaching Lit as an austere
Adjunct in community college
Making pennies on borrowed knowledge.
Now I am free to write for free,
The going rate for poetry.
