Holdin' On To Hope

Never give up hope.
acoustic folk country lai
Lyricist on an endless quest for the perfect melody.
I'm afraid I can't claim to be a band, although I have been known to jump on a bandwagon from time to time. No, I'm just a humble lyricist who is in absolute awe of the composers who have stumbled into my life and bothered to wrap a melody around some of my words. I've been attempting to legitimately call myself a lyricist since I was about 14 years old. Have a listen, won't you, and let me know if I qualify.

Lyrics
Holdin’ On To Hope Her mama named her Hope As she held her newborn tight. She knew that Hope was special, She could see it in her eyes. The years would pass and Hope grew fast, But they grew closer by the day. When pneumonia struck her mother Hope nursed each ache away. One winter night snow turned to ice And gave Hope one slippery ride. A crash on the bridge at Taylor’s Ridge Left the teen fighting for her life. And her mama was holdin’ on to Hope Like only a mother can. Calling prayers to the Lord upstairs, She held her baby’s hand. The doctor said “She’s critical, We’ve done everything we know.” Her mama held tight to her faith She was holdin’ on to hope. Well, I fell in love with Hope In the twelfth grade when we first met. But she loved Eddie Johnson, Wore his class ring around her neck I often tried to tell her But the words fell down my chin. Hope was someone’s high school sweetheart And I was just her friend. Eddie was sly, a Casanova guy, Kept a few girls on the side. When Hope got word I knew she hurt, I could see the pain in her eyes. And I was holdin’ on to Hope As only a friend would do. Wiping every tear that fell While my own heart broke in two. The two of us were pitiful As we held each other close. She never knew the way I felt But I was holdin’ on to hope. College graduation, I found the nerve to write a note. Didn’t want to face the future Without holdin’ on to hope Now, I’m holdin’ on to Hope Like only a husband can. Loving every minute of life Since she gave me her hand. Each day is more beautiful Than the ones I used to know. I never knew dreams could come true ‘But I kept holdin’ on to Hope. No, I never knew dreams could come true ‘Til I was holding on to Hope. Her mama named her Hope…
