Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
I read this Kafka story when I was 17 and uderstood it to be a clear indictment of the absurdity of ritual and superstition. Learned analysis seem to think it's about an invisible God who provides but I still think that that's just the framework not the main thrust!
Lyrics
BL 05 Kafka's dog E Bm AEE E Bm ABB7 E Bm AEE E G AEE Break the habit of a lifetime, you can do it easily Throw yourself a lifeline, see what you can be Don't run on automatic think things through You'll be ecstatic when you see what it can do for you. We all know the best laid plans can come to nought But you can change odds to your favour with just a little thought Don't mess around with lucky charms or rabbits' feet There's no hidden magic gonna make your life run sweet C#mC#mC#mC#mG#mF#mEE C#mC#mC#mC#mD A G G C#mC#mC#mC#mG#mF#mEE C#mC#mC#mC#mD A B B Our brains love to look for patterns in clouds or trees Get rid of superstitions and set yourself free Like don't walk under ladders, or things come in threes You need to clear the fog If you stick to the groove then stuck you will be Correlation is not causality Religious rituals are simply OCD Remember Kafka's dog Whatever you think things won't always work the same Don't get hooked on your lottery numbers that's a loser's game A repetition doesn't make a rule Look at your stars? Don't be such a gullible fool. ?
