Story behind the song
Stream of consciousness lyrics regarding the wonder of creation. For those more technically minded, I knew I wrote at least one key change into this song, but I only figured out just how many when I started trying to improvise the various embellishments to the basic piano track, and had to keep changing keys to do so. The verse itself alternates between Am and F#m, the refrain is in D, the chorus in E, and the final instrumental in G. Strangely enough It's all quite melodically seamless, as opposed to songs like Phantom of the Opera or some of my other tunes, in which the many key changes are purposely pronounced.
Lyrics
SINCE THE BEGINNING A mountain view, a sundown hue, easy on the eyes Blackest night, a firelight, as the night wind cries A valley wide where children hide and listen to the rustling breeze As rivers flow, few but know, whereof the seven seas A lonely room, and ancient tomb, forgotten and alone A downtown street, people meet, statues carved in stone A smiling man, a waving hand, sounds of every kind An angry crowd, a dark rain cloud, our tales all set to unwind And high up in the heavens the stars continue to shine As they have so brightly, since the beginning of time No matter what it's life so rare, so long as we still care It may not always seem that way but there's so much more to be shared And high up in the heavens our karma plays out in rhyme As it has so rightly since the beginning of time Yes, high up in the heavens the stars continue to shine As they have so brightly since the beginning of time
