Story behind the song

I'm sure that at sometime in the future, (although I do believe I've heard of it recently), Humans will develop emotional ties to mechanical automatons. In some way we already do "love" certain mechanical things in our lives. For instance, how many times have you heard people say things like "I love my car/motorbike/hoover/dish washer etc" ?  I think people do feel deeply for mechanical things, but is it "love" ? What do you think ?
