Was hoping to get this track out much earlier this year, but it has been a very trying one for every one of us. Finally got this done. The song references the year that was devastating for all of us describing the horrible tragedy we've all endured in the past year. The song talks about our strength and resolve and thanks to the essential workers and those in the medical field for their efforts during these trying times. The summation of the year that was 2020.
Lyrics
It started out as a great year
But sadly it turned grim
We never saw this coming
All our futures were looking dim
Not the year we wanted
Surely not the fun we need
This deadly virus has got to go
A life returned we all agreed
What can we look forward to
Seems the choices are but a few
So we need to look at the positives
And bring to light a life anew
Isolate, mask up, and social distance
have become our primary orders
Crazy election, there's no direction
Banned from coming over the borders
CHORUS
Welcome to a new decade
We thought was full of hope
Fueled by disease and outrage
Some days it's seems so hard to cope
Deaths would mount by hundreds
Panic would be nothing but plenty
Regardless of all it's still a new year
Oh it's Twenty-Twenty
We didn't ask for this new normal
But there is nothing we can do
Live with it or die without it
Never has all of the world been so blue
The dawn of a new day comes
With that we just hold our breaths
In the media, the net, and the news
sad to hear about all these deaths
Lets just move on to next year
Hoping this was nothing but a bad dream
Oh but the reality of its too surreal
So many times I'd just like to scream
World health leaders are up in arms
Saying we're all not doing our part
This year has had so many losses
Just look at the most recent chart
CHORUS
But we will all stand strong
And fight this with all we've got
Nothing shall destroy our goal
The effort it takes does say a lot
Here's to the essential workers
And those in the medical field
Thank you for all you've done
Our future dreams we shall not yield
BRIDGE
This year will go down in history
As one recorded for the ages
Forever changing our lives
History books will have rewritten pages
ENDING CHORUS
Welcome to a new decade
We thought was full of hope
Fueled by disease and outrage
Some days it's seems so hard to cope
Deaths would mount by hundreds
Panic would be nothing but plenty
Regardless of all it's still a new year
Oh it's Twenty-Twenty
