I cast out in the middle of the day
And then fierce clouds parked over the lake
The hail catapulted and tore through my sail
The waters filled the boat and I started to bail
Don't sail out farther than you can row back
Don't sail out farther than you can row back
Your ship is sunk if you can't adapt
Don't sail out farther than you can row back
I gathered up my wits and took up the oars
And started paddling my way back to the shore
I offered all kinds of things up to God
Lord let me make it back to dry sod
It was still raining down cats and dogs
I felt relieved when I got to the dock
I ran to my car and started to shake
For I'd dropped my keys back there in the lake
